Deux Rivages (after Von Guerard)
'One of the most critical psychological dimensions of any immigrant or exile is the sense of belonging to ‘deux rivages’ [two shores]' Sheridan Palmer, Maladies of the soul.
As a child immigrant growing up in the Hungarian diaspora of Melbourne, Palmer's words echo in my experience. Connecting these ideas with Austrian-born artist Eugene von Guerard's Castle Rock, I examine my own sense of belonging as an Austrian-born, culturally Hungarian, Australian immigrant artist. Where my sense of belonging to multiple shores and multiple cultures continues to permeate my experience and existence.
