That Warm Welcoming Glow
Arriving in just about any country town, after many miles on the road my heart is warmed by the promise of a comforting and familiar meal in a Chinese restaurant. They’re an enduring part of the Australian landscape, likely family owned and often the ‘special occasion’ restaurant in town. Using relief printed patterns, repetition and the imagery of a porcelain plate, I hope to create a nostalgic and light hearted reflection on belonging and place. With a deep sense of affection for a time before multinationals and mindless consumption, my works are reinterpretations of commemoration and adoration.
