Kurank
Kurank, the traditional name for the Coorong describes the bottleneck where the Murray River meets the sea. Home of the first inhabitants the Njarrindgeri, it was once one of the most densely populated regions of Australia.
Today its complex ecosystem is protected by the Ramsar agreement, and is recognised as an internationally significant breeding ground for migratory and shore birds.
It’s quiet waters surrounded by dunes draw me back frequently, just like the birds.
