They didn't seem to mind
'They didn't seem to mind' depicts an image of my children playing in the backyard, throwing sticks into the fire. As I looked out at them I was lamenting about the grass that needed to be mowed and the falling down wood sheds. I was then distracted by their delight and inhibition while playing, allowing me to contrast the adult and child subjectivity. This painting draws upon the Australian dream and how the backyard has been depicted in this narrative. It invites the viewer to think about place and space and what we can learn from children about how to be present and play.
