Jess hill is an award winning investigative journalist and prominent voice in the gendered violence space – recognised for her books/documentaries “see what you made me do” and “Asking for it”. My piece is an ode to every woman in 2024 who met a violent and unlawful death…adorned with 104 flowers, one for each of them. Socially, we understand gifting flowers as a positive gesture – but to cut a flower from its garden is to decide that you own it. It is to enjoy its beauty for yourself at the expense of its own life and others who love it.
