Rising Heat at Wheeny Creek
50 x 60cm
Oil on board, framed
$5000
This is one of my dearest and most favourite paintings. It’s joyful and hot and shimmers with heat. It was painted in five chunky-paint sessions at Wheeny Creek, Kurrajong. An innocuous patch of bush caught my eye and stirred my heart. I sat on my swag with a campchair for shade and painted from 10am to midday (when I lost the shadows).
It’s less precise than my usual style and much more impressionistic, as I painted entirely in situ with no reference photo.
At the 2024 Hawkesbury Show this painting won first prize in the traditional painting section, and Best in Show.
