‘Mangrove Thicket’ evokes the complexity of contemporary Australian identity through an abstract lens. The mangrove canopy unites and overshadows twisting channels thick with interwoven roots. The densely matted mangrove forms symbolize the complexity of contemporary Australian identity with its myriad shades of cultural entanglement and incompletely reconciled contradictions.
Overlapping migrations have nurtured a fluidity of identities which flicker like the sparkles of light penetrating through the canopy of the mangrove to its floor. Mangroves teem with diverse life forms and contemporary Australian identity likewise takes many forms, all unified within the ecosystem called Australia.
