Rachel Carroll. Fire is an essential part of the Australian landscape. It often releases seeds via the extreme heat that it generates. Some seeds would otherwise not burst into existence without this heat. Birds also benefit as they also have access to the newly released seeds.
The way we backburn in Australia requires discussion. Our indigenous elders have a great understanding of the seasons and the best times to burn for regeneration, plus they understand the benefits of a cool burn. A cool burn is a fire that is started and better controlled in the cooler, or wetter months. When young are not hatching or being fed. I hope this artwork helps us to reflect on the positive ways fire does benefit the land.
